We kicked off 2020 at Pepcom’s Digital! Experience showcase at the Consumer Electronic Show (CES) in Las Vegas. CES is always a gathering of the most creative companies in tech at the moment, and this year was no different. It was inspiring to be among our fellow tech innovators, and the perfect venue to showcase our lines of document scanners, as well as gaming and coding/programming keyboards.
Media were excited to play around with the ScanSnap iX1500, watching it effortlessly scan dozens of documents, large and small, to our onsite laptops and tablets at just the click of a button.
The ScanSnap series has a fan base of dedicated users, but we were especially excited to introduce the product to new faces at Pepcom this year. Our experts walked through all of the best features of the iX1500, including the ScanSnap Home software, which allows users to conveniently save and organize all scanning in one place, its carrier sheet-free layout for even faster scanning, ScanSnap Cloud for seamless integration with a variety of popular cloud services like Box, Dropbox and Evernote, and of course the one-touch panel, without any need for confusing buttons.
While we were busy at our booth, we did get some time to hit the floor to check out what was trending this year, from wearables and rideables to televisions and AI-powered everything. Though it was a hard to pick, here are few top products that caught our eye this year:
Plaqless Pro: First-of-its-kind smart toothbrush from Colgate
Smartphone compatible healthcare devices are on the rise, and in a world where nearly everything is connected to your smartphone, there’s one place you might not expect it: your toothbrush. We stopped by Colgate’s booth to check out the new Plaqless Pro smart electric toothbrush to learn how it improves the brushing experience.
This toothbrush has tons of really interesting features that promote better brushing, including a smart pressure sensor that can detect biofilm buildup in mouths. There’s also real-time itracking and coaching, based on AI from thousands of recorded brushing sessions. And for the extremely diligent brushers, the Plaqless Pro’s sensors creates and share a "map" of your mouth and to your phone so you can see exactly where you've brushed and what spots you've missed.
OVIS Suitcase: AI-powered suitcase by Forward X Robotics
Traveling can be stressful - so much so that it might make you wonder if your getaway is even worth it. Leading up to a trip, there’s countless things to do from packing, making copies of your passport, making arrangements for house plants and pets and more.
The OVIS Suitcase is aiming to alleviate some of that stress. Funded on Indiegogo, OVIS is truly hands-free AI-powered suitcase that uses groundbreaking computer vision technology to detect its surroundings and avoid hitting objects, following autonomously side-by-side of its user. Remarkably, it can also study the travelers’ faces and follow them wherever they go.
What’s more, it has already been approved by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and it has a built-in power bank to keep your phone charged at all times. Now, how’s that for happy traveling?
Spatial: augmented reality for shared workspaces
The age-old 9-5, 40-hour week still exists in many companies but more and more we’re seeing that companies are moving towards a remote work policy. Enter Spatial. This collaborative work platform turns any space across the globe into an augmented workplace, allowing remote team members to brainstorm, share ideas and content and collaborate as if they were in the same room!
Lifelike avatars even simulate the feeling of being face-to-face with your coworkers using 2D photos of them. Spatial’s next-gen technology is completely revamping cross-office connections, making remote interactions between people more meaningful and real. And with the recent struggles of co-working spaces like WeWork and Spacious, along with the steady uptick of remote working, this certainly feels like a next-level replacement for in-person meetings and even Zoom or Slack. We’ll be watching to see how this takes root!
