The Gift of Organization for the Graduate

Another graduation season is upon us, and although life has changed due to COVID-19, it’s still a time to celebrate and be proud of all the new graduates who’ve gone through some extraordinary challenges but still found a way to reach that goal. If there’s a new graduate living under your roof, it might be unclear as to if or when they will be heading physically to college or a job. But even if the honorable student will be dialing in from the family sofa for the foreseeable future, there’s still much to celebrate. And what a better way to reward all of that hard work and perseverance than with gifts!  While other blogs, articles, and sites might rush to offer more conventional rewards like luggage, backpacks, or a desk lamp for the dorm or that first home away from home, we think we have a better idea.

Help your grad transition to the world of grownups by equipping them with the technology to help them organize their life while minimizing the paper trail. From tax forms to diplomas, IDs to I-9s, graduates at all levels can use help in digitizing their paper world. As I mentioned in a previous post, my own fascination with document scanners began as a young adult, and I encourage you to let your accomplished family members in on this secret for preserving and organizing important documents, treasured photos, and other delicate keepsakes.  It’s a great way to preserve all of those school papers and projects that they’ve worked so hard on while eliminating all of that storage space at the same time!

The Gift that Keeps on Organizing

Our newest model, the ScanSnap iX1600 makes it easy to scan a variety of document sizes and shapes. It also features wireless or USB connectivity, an intuitive touch screen, and easy-to-use software that helps you manage all of your scanned documents with a lot of extra functionality including the ability to convert pages into fully editable files. For those younger adults who mainly use a device instead of a computer, no problem, the iX1600 works great with Apple and Android phones and tablets.  And for everyone using the best storage apps, it has several popular direct to cloud integrations including Dropbox, Evernote, and Google Drive, to name a few.  They can scan directly to them from the iX1600 while still texting on their phone or whatever it is that young people do these days…When they need those files, they can access them wherever they are.  It may even save you a fire drill or two when they need a document to secure their rental unit, get a job, or apply for a loan.

If you’re worried about the learning curve, the ScanSnap iX1400 offers a scanning experience that’s a piece of cake to use. Scan with a single touch of the button, with no compromise on performance or image quality. This classic desktop model makes it easy to capture all sizes of documents, from small pieces like receipts and photo prints to legal documents like rental applications.  While it doesn’t have some of the great features of the iX1600, it’s still a great solution for anyone who wants to scan and manage their documents with a PC or Mac.  And yes, they can still upload their documents to all of those popular cloud services using ScanSnap Home.  That’s the same great software that comes with the iX1600.

Good Things Come in Small Packages

For true mobility and flexibility, consider the ScanSnap iX100. This hand-held model features a dramatically compact size with a chargeable battery and Wi-Fi, just like their mobile device! Whether scanning receipts, forms, pictures, cards, notes, or assignments, the iX100 takes scanning beyond the desktop and on the road or wherever they need to capture documents. Weighing in at just under a pound, you can use it to scan to an iPhone or Android device or a Windows or Mac computer, no cable required. Or, check out the ScanSnap S1300i, which is the next size up with an integrated document feeder and definite cool factor.  And don’t forget about ScanSnap Home, it’s included with all of them as well.

Ok, maybe those Bose headphones or Apple watch would be nice. Or, you know, cash. But those will be broken, lost, or spent in no time while a ScanSnap scanner is a long-term gift that keeps giving. I think they’re going to love the scanner as much as I did, all those years ago.  And by the way, I still do, to this very day.
